Dental Cleanings in Lake Worth, TX

Smiling woman talking to dentist during cleaning at HomeTown Dental at Lake Worth in Lake Worth, TX.Keeping your teeth clean and healthy means brushing and flossing daily, but there are also other steps you can take to guarantee your mouth health. One extremely important factor to having a healthy mouth is getting professional cleanings by our amazing dental team at HomeTown Dental - Lake Worth Dentist & Braces at least once a year. These regular cleanings help prevent enamel decay and other health issues associated with poor oral hygiene. We provide thorough dental cleanings to preserve your long term oral healthy.

Critical Oral Hygiene Care

Brushing and flossing regularly is great, but you still need our professional cleaning services to maintain your oral health. You should come to see us at least once a year, although most people choose to have dental cleanings every six months. Our professionals will give you a cleaning treatment that you will not be able to do at home, even with a commercial water pick. This, along with brushing and flossing at home, guarantees good oral health. It prevents plaque and tartar build-up, which would put you at risk for various oral health conditions, such as gingivitis or periodontitis.

Professional Cleaning

The first part of professional cleaning is a process called scaling. This is when our dental hygienist uses a scaler to scrape plaque and tartar off of your teeth, including along your gum line. Scalers are pointed in order to allow our dental hygienist to easily pull any debris away from your teeth. While our dental hygienist is scaling your teeth, you might hear a scraping sound. This is just the sound of the scaler working on your teeth and it is a completely normal sound as teeth are strong and more than capable of handling this process.

Professional Brushing and Flossing

Scaling is just one part of the professional cleaning process. Once we finish scaling the teeth, we will brush them using a specially designed electric toothbrush. This circular brush is able to brush each tooth individually to ensure that they are all cleaned and that no debris is left behind. Our office uses a toothpaste with a gritty texture so that it polishes your teeth as it cleans. This will taste and smell similar to toothpastes you use at your house. These are most often mint flavored, but you can ask us about other options as well. After applying this toothpaste to each individual tooth, our dental hygienist will use a water syringe to rinse your teeth to get rid of the paste and any leftover debris.

Our dental hygienist will finish the cleaning appointment by flossing each of your teeth to ensure that bacteria and debris is completely removed. Again, this floss is similar to the floss that you use on yourself at home. Once our dental hygienist is finished, you can then rinse out your mouth. We may also perform a fluoride treatment if teeth enamel needs strengthening.

Dental Exam

Your appointment will conclude with our dentist examining your teeth and mouth. Here, they check for any cavities, maldevelopment, injuries, or other dental concerns. You can also let them know about any odd symptoms you have been experiencing. In addition, our dentist may also do some light cleaning if they notice any plaque leftover. They will also take the time to talk to you about any concerns that either of you have.
