Clear Aligners®
Lake Worth, TX

A woman holding invisalign at HomeTown Dental at Lake Worth in Lake Worth, TXBraces are often thought of as the only method for tooth alignment. However, Invisalign has been available since the 1990’s as an alternative to braces. These have more aesthetic appeal and are also able to ensure proper function and alignment. HomeTown Dental at Lake Worth has Invisalign available and can give you more information on the product.

Why Invisalign Is Important

Dental aligners, such as braces, are critical for dental development. Teeth that are improperly aligned can cause issues with eating as well as increase the risk for injury or infection. Invisalign is a relatively newer alternative to braces that has several benefits. These can be used to correct improper alignment, such as overbite, overjet, crowding, gaps, underbite, and jaw misalignment.

Invisalign is the preferred treatment for many patients and dental professionals. This is a clear dental aligner, meaning people will not be able to see that you have a dental aligner on your teeth. Unlike braces, these are also removable. This makes activities such as eating, flossing, and brushing a lot easier than they are for people with braces. In addition, they are more reliable than braces. They are said to work 50% faster and have 75% more predictability in aligning your teeth.

Procedure

You will first consult with our orthodontist, where they will perform an oral exam and get a 3D scan. They do this in order to customize a treatment plan for you. Then, the scan is forwarded to a digital treatment facility. This is where the aligner and sequence of aligners are designed based on recommendations from our orthodontist. Once this plan is approved, it is forwarded to a production facility. At this facility, technicians will produce your customized Invisalign and send it to our office. We will explain how the product works, how to use properly, care instructions, and check that it fits well. During the exam, you will also receive a professional dental cleaning.

Patients do have different timelines for their treatments and yours will be based on the severity of your condition. Usually, Invisalign treatments last about ten months to two years. You can take these off to eat and clean your teeth, but you will be wearing them for approximately twenty-two hours each day. You will also receive a new aligner every week or every other week.

After Invisalign treatment is complete, our dentist will give you a retainer. This is designed to fit a mold of your teeth. This retainer will be worn overnight to maintain alignment. The timeline for this will be explained by our dentist during your visit.

Invisalign Maintenance

Invisalign needs to be kept in a good condition if you want it to work properly. On a daily basis, you will need to wash it with soap and water. You should not use hot water and you should also not use toothpaste to clean it. These can damage the plastic material, which can affect the fit and treatment effectiveness. You will only take Invisalign off to clean your teeth and eat. During these times, put it in water or a cleaning solution. You should clean your teeth before you put the Invisalign back on.
